I must start this with: I really don’t know what to say. Within a few weeks two horrible things have happened. Part of me is in shock and part of me is not. However, let me first say that whatever happens to America as a nation we deserve it. I hate to say that but it's how I feel. The country that my family and my ancestors fought for has come to this. You have come to a place where you laugh and applaud the death of another human being. A man who was a husband and a father. A man who had a mother, father and siblings just like most of us. His political affiliations do not matter. Whatever he believed does not matter.
Those of you who find this funny have you put yourself in the place of his family? Obviously not because if you had you wouldn’t be laughing. How would you feel if people across the nation were laughing at your loved one who has died while you’re grieving? Would you appreciate people laughing at your pain? Would you appreciate people laughing at your grief? It’s easy for you to laugh behind your cellphone or your computer screen. Cowards! All of you are cowards. I dare you to walk up to his wife and children and laugh. None of you have the testicular fortitude to do so and I’ll tell you that to your face.
This country is in serious need of some therapy. Everyone in this nation should have mandatory therapy from this day forward because it is full of some very sick individuals. I wish one of you mutherf****rs would laugh at my father’s death or my grandfather’s death. Both of them did great things and were good men. Just like “all” men they had their flaws but they were still awesome. I love them both and miss them dearly. The man that you are laughing at had flaws too but his family loves him dearly just like you love yours. And, ALL of you have flaws. None of you are perfect, can be perfect or will EVER be perfect because it is impossible for you to be so. There has been and there will only ever be one perfect person who walked this earth; and it isn’t any of you.
On another note, the other side of my essay…
Charlotte, North Carolina, is not a racial issue. Stop making it one. The people involved could have been orange and purple. Again, this country is in serious need of therapy. Right now I’m ashamed to call myself human and American after finally watching the video footage. No one and I mean no one offered to save or help this poor young woman. Last time I checked people came to this country not only to be free but to be safe. When the most free country in the world becomes unsafe that creates a problem ladies and gentlemen. The country that I served has become unsafe for people to find refuge in. Have any of you thought about this? How dare you make this about race. That is what is laughable because all of you are falling prey to the media and especially social media. I don’t trust either one. You can’t trust either one and this is coming from someone who was a part of the media for 24 years. Not everything is about race! If you’d stop making it so then it would start to disappear. This is about not being human. Not one person on that lyte rail rushed to help her. Not one person alerted the authorities until it was too late. And, there were people of various ethnicities on that section of the rail. There were numerous men that could’ve come to her aid but none did, which is horrible. What happened to chivalry?! I hate to put it this way but this was
literally a damsel in distress and as men we failed. As human beings we failed. We should all be horrified at this not because of color but for the dignity of being a human. For the dignity of trying to live life. For the dignity of trying to have a better life. What happened to people’s integrity? In case you don’t know what that means, the short version is what are you doing when no one is looking. This was the perfect time to show integrity as a nation and come together to save another person. Everyone on that rail could have saved her and stopped him. They didn’t and that is a huge disappointment. I am very disappointed in humans and this nation. Last time I checked the famous saying was, “women and children first”. What happened to that?!
This week has been unbearably rough to say the least as you can tell from everything I’ve said so far. The last month has been rough. And, today being 9/11 makes things even heavier. I hope those of you reading this find love, peace, hope and joy the rest of this year. Obviously, there’s only one being who can give that to you infinitely.
Time to go spin some Led Zeppelin or Jethro Tull…. I need a break.
